Hi Hailey

I came across your article whilst researching other companies start up costs - as compared to FM Group that I am with.
I was very impressed by your article and felt compelled to get in touch to let you know. You are very clear thinking and positive and those are excellent qualities in any business builder.

I wish you well in your chosen career. Here's to independent women in business!

Great post Haily. For me I think one of the things I wish had understood right from the start is that as a team leader, I'm not responsible for what people decide to do, or not do. I can offer loads of support, and can be at the end of the phone, I can visit them and get them going, I can help them set goals and coach them - but I can't make them get up off their bum - only they can do that.

It's about the figures and you need to recruit enough people to keep your team numbers up because unless you are absolutely brilliant at pre-qualifying before you sign up (and remember this could also be seen as pre-judging and you could let a potential gold team member slip through your fingers before you've even given them the chance to do anything) people will do nothing and leave, or do a little and leave.

Work with the people who are doing the work, because they deserve your time, and set yourself free of any responsibility, and stop poking with a stick, those who say they are going to set the world alight and then do SFA. It's not their time. And it's not your fault.

As one of the older members of CXI, I thought people might like to get a copy of "How to win friends and influence people" by Dale Carnegie. It could be passed over as just an old book, but that would be a huge mistake! You won't find anything better to help you understand people. An invaluable resource to building a team and getting the best performance out of them.

Thanks Simon. Simon and Jen are good, hard working network marketers. They have worked extremely hard to build their business and still continue to do so. To find out whats involved and what can be achieved read their story here http://www.comparextraincome.com/clients/simon-james-avon-agent.php

A great piece, a very honest description of an MLM business. No it's not a get rich idea but if you are prepared to work and jump out of your comfort zone you will make it.

I think one of the key challenges for someone who is moving from a job where they are employed to working from home is dealing with feedback.

For most employed people there is someone - the boss - who tells them theyve done a good job or a crap job. And what needs to happen for them to make the grade. When you're the boss then you need to do this for yourself and it's just not that easy.

If you are the type of person who thrives on getting positive feedback from others, then you will need to find a way of dealing with this because clients and customers can't be relied upon to provide enough to keep you content.

Even worse can be that no-one steps in and tells you that you're not doing it right. You eventually realise of course when you don't have any money coming in!

This is one of the reasons why joining an MLM organisation can be an excellent way for someone who likes that aspect of being employed to get the best of both worlds. Most MLM's have excellent team support with loads of recognition and a proven system for you to follow alongside mentoring from your upline to keep you on track.

We have certainly found this to be the case with KLeeneze which has superb support ethos both from the team and head office, and the recognition is second to none.

The more you do something though, the more it becomes a habit and second nature.

Definately spend more time with 'radiators' and not 'drains' and spend time on keeping yourself motivated (eg motivational/inspiring books, DVDs, autobiographies, recomended business books etc)

Listen to the people who you are inspired by, however remember we will all work in different ways so go with your own strengths. There should be enough flexibility within your businesses that you can be creative with your approach although you may have the same products or hours in the day as the next distributor/business owner.

We all grow at a different pace so don't be put off if you are slow to 'get going'. Just get yourself into good habits, set yourself goals realistic to yourself and enjoy it!

See it for the exciting adventure that it is and don't be afraid to ask for help :0)

You're completely right about this Kate, when you get past 45/50 years of age I would say a system becomes really essential. Sales can easily be lost due to absent mindedness (is this a word? it should be lol)

Planning is the key to success, if I need to move something that I have planned for because it has been canx and rebooked, I reschedule it on to the right date then and there that way it does not get forgotten.
I also priortise what I am doing, and make sure the top priorties are things that need urgent attention or will move my busiess forward first.

I write down a list of tasks the night before for the next day. I then alloctae times to these tasks and make sure I stick to my schedule. This helps me stay disciplined when working from home and also gives me a record of what I am actually achieving from day to day.

"People have many reasons for leaving a business and sometimes they just can’t be bothered to put the effort in and then blame the product or company for their failure."
I couldn't agree more with you, Hailey. I've lost count of the number of times a potential new recruit for my business has asked friends what they think of it and been put off by them. Either they don't know enough about it to give a valid opinion or they know (or are) an ex-distributor for the company, in which case they are hardly likely to admit to being too unmotivated or lazy to have made it profitable!

As an adolescent I certainly didn't show too much awareness of life's opportunity and wish I had taken school more seriously when I had the chance. I guess it's sites like these that can speak to younger people who have not yet formed an idea of their path through life. I wish I was an airline pilot now, but I didn't realise how precious school was when it could have made a difference.
