When I entered Herbalife I was already self employed and was working as a marketing consultant. I knew about network marketing and decided to research the market to find the best company. It took me 6 months to identify Herbalife and straight away joined the business.

My reasoning was that working as a self employed consultant was very up and down in terms of work and income and Herbalife was seen as a way to generate steady supplementary income and also (later) long term residual income from royalties.

I have not been disappointed, Herbalife is a highly ethical and a robust company with high quality products (these factors were and are very important to me) addressing a field which is also very much a grown area (health, nutrition and weight control).

This is particularly relevant to the main target market (also the target for many companies) of the baby boomers who are the most affluent sector in the consumer market and also are looking for health and weight control.

About 2 / 3 years ago my marketing consultancy activities wound down and I am now very much full time on Herbalife. I have been able to develop the network marketing skills I have learnt with Herbalife (they don't teach these on most marketing courses) and have been able to use email, the internet and telecoms quite effectively with the result that I am now building my business in 3 countries and more are planned.

A bonus has been my own successful use throughout of the Herbalife products for health and fitness particularly in my swimming and cycling activities. In income terms Herbalife has now enabled me to replace my previous consultancy income and there is now much more potential for growth.

What are the start up costs for your opportunity?
The start up kit (the Herbalife International Business Pack) costs £83.00 and contains the agreement and manual, also some key products for the new distributor to try themselves.

How many years has your company been trading?
Herbalife started up in 1980 so is now in its 29th year.

What type of selling is involved (party plan, catalogues etc)?
There is great variety in the ways to do the business including (in no special order) questionnaires, networking, leaflets, advertising, internet, party plan, referrals. The objective is to talk to prospects about the product benefits (and also potential distributors about what they are looking for).

Distributors are encouraged to use the products themselves and develop their own testimonial and then to select 2/3 methods from a list of around 10/15 alternatives, selecting things they like to do and so this business can be enjoyable as well as profitable.

What training and support is offered?
There are a variety of training sources including (importantly) the distributors own sponsor, local opportunity meetings, local training meetings, internet site based information, webinars, success training seminars (in various UK locations) and international leadership events. Distributors are encouraged to train continuously to maintain and develop their skills.

What are the basic initial commission rates?
The basic margin for a new distributor is 25% however a basic rate of 30% can be achieved and the margin rises to a maximum of 50% for supervisors.

What products/services do you provide or sell?
Herbalife offers a range of outer nutrition products for weight control and health including the world renowned Formula 1 (shake) and also key products such as Formula 2 (multi vitamins), Formula 3 (personalised protein powder) and Thermojetics Beverage (a specialised drinking tea). These are supported by a range of supplementary herbal / nutritional basic targeted products and there is also a high quality range of outer nutrition products (skin care)

What does your company offer?
Herbalife offers a way for someone to achieve an income level working out of their home which addresses their needs in terms of additional income (or possibly main income). This may be simply to meet domestic outgoings or may be the way to achieve a lifetime dream such as owning that second home, buying a yacht or educating children.

In doing so you are also offering products which can make the difference to people needing help with their health, fitness and weight. This can offer a lot of job satisfaction as well as income.

What can someone joining your company realistically expect to earn?
In the first months then the income level will be measured in the low hundreds of pounds but this can build into thousands a month after a few years. What you earn will however be strictly related to what you do and how much time and effort you put into your business.

Does stock have to be bought in advance and stored by the distributor?
No there is no requirement to do this and what stock the distributor takes on is their choice. As with any business, having some stock to hand will assist sales response and the distributor needs to control stock as with any sales operation. Sales can however be fulfilled by simply ordering off the main warehouse with a 2/3 day response.

Are there any restrictions on earnings?
No the sales plan allows the distributor to build up their business over time to any level they choose.

Are there territories in which you have to sell within?
No there are no restrictions of where you can sell product within the UK or any other country open for business. There are 69 other countries and there is also a procedure which allows the distributor to make sales with local warehouse sourcing (in that country).

Does someone joining your opportunity have to meet certain criteria or targets?
No the only stipulation is that the distributor is over 18 years old although distributors can be sponsored from 14 years with parental approval. There are no mandatory targets which the distributor has to achieve.

What sets your opportunity apart from the others?
A combination of factors of which the most important are that:

Herbalife also has a great and well developed brand which the company allows its distributors to use, albeit with a few restrictions which are very reasonable. (An example of brand awareness is that Herbalife are nutritional sponsors for LA Galaxy where David Beckham plays, so David Beckham now has Herbalife across the front of his team jersey) This makes your promotion a lot easier than dealing with a company / product which is relatively unknown.

What are the ways in which you can earn money from your opportunity?
There are three income streams: (1) Retailing to customers; (2) Wholesaling to distributors in your downline (who are not supervisors); (3) Royalties from the business achieved by your downline supervisors.

What bonuses and incentives do you have and how easily achieved are they?
Bonuses (on top of royalties) are paid at the higher levels and this can include vacations, however considerable effort and time is needed to build up to these levels. Incentives in various forms are offered on a continuous basis and qualifying for these will help you progress.

Can anyone be successful with this opportunity?
Yes, the Herbalife business system is well proven and works, however it is important that the Herbalife methods are learnt by the individual and carried out in a systematic and consistent way, day by day.

Is there anything else you would like to say about your opportunity?
I have worked for a number of household name companies involved in several different markets and I selected Herbalife because it was in food and was well established and ethical but also demonstrated considerable flair in the way it addressed the weight control market. Food products have always tended to be a good business to be in and health / weight control is now a growth sector. This means that Herbalife can offer not just extra income but a long term career path.

Herbalife has become a $3.0 Billion company quoted on the New York Stock Exchange. It has a Nutritional Advisory Board which draws expertise from across the world and it is headed up by Professor David Heber an accepted leader in the field of nutrition / weight control. It also includes Dr Louis Ignarro a Nobel Laureate for work in nutritional research. When selecting a company to work with Herbalife's credentials are exceptional. Herbalife plans to expand considerably over the coming years and anyone can be part of this.

Herbalife has been operating in the UK since 1984 and is a member of the UK Direct Selling Association.

Application for a Herbalife distributorship is by means of an agreement included in the Herbalife International Business Pack and this agreement is governed by the terms detailed on this agreement which potential distributors should read carefully and understand before signing.

An important aspect of this agreement is that there is a 14 day cooling off period whereby cancellation is possible within 14 days with a refund.
