Jobs from home
There has recently been a trend in employers allowing certain duties to be carried out at an employee’s home. Jobs from home are becoming a more efficient way for employers to tackle issues such as flexible family working and allowing an employee to work from home that may otherwise be unable to get to work due to a temporary illness or disability.
Working from home rather than from the office does however require a certain trust relationship between employee and employer. Working from home also requires a lot of discipline, whether it is working for someone else or yourself. A job done at home may not be so hard to implement if you have an employer to answer to regarding the work you have actually completed each day. However if you choose to work from home and be your own boss then many distractions are putting your productivity and business at risk.
Without a boss to answer to and with all your home comforts surrounding you, it requires a lot of discipline to actually get the job done at home rather than being distracted by a TV programme or a social networking site. A quick coffee break or an unexpected phone call or visit from a friend can soon turn into a whole afternoon or morning wasted.
If you have a job at home or a business you run from home it is important to write down a work schedule for each day and stick to it. Don’t be tempted to take unscheduled breaks or get distracted. Your friends and family need to respect that although you are at home, you are also at work and unavailable.
The flexibility that a job from home gives us can also be its downfall so be disciplined and avoid distractions in order to succeed.
